The “Salute to the Warrior” celebration was a great success and included a celebrity double header; made up of celebrities as well as former and current professional athletes from Major League Baseball and the National Football League. Some of the athletes who participated were Patrick Crayton, Cory Procter and Isaiah Stanback formerly of the Dallas Cowboys as well as Kevin Mench from the Texas Rangers, and many more from the New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49’ers, Washington Redskins, Baltimore Ravens, St Louis Rams, and Atlanta Falcons. The Veterans Parachute Group opened the festivities with a sky dive into LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, Texas and Recording Artist Matt Snook performed a post game concert, along with comedy by Comedian and Wounded Warrior, Bobby Henline. All proceeds benefited the children of our fallen military heroes through Snowball Express and the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team.
About the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team:
“1-2-3, Warriors!” That’s the pre-game cheer for the national Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST), a group of veterans and active-duty soldiers who lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to modern prosthetic technology, they are able to compete at high levels by wearing prostheses that allow them to hit, run, catch and throw. March 2014 marks the team’s three-year anniversary. WWAST has a winning record of 100-46 (after beating our team 2-0) and has played in 28 states and 67 cities.
