Irving HS Celebration of Freedom 2015

The Airpower Foundation was proud to sponsor the second annual Celebration of Freedom at Irving High School, along with our partners at American Airlines, honoring all who served in Vietnam.  The evening included special presentations by Vietnam Veteran Allen Clark, who lost both legs due to a mortar attack, and Ken Cordier who spent six years, three months, and two days as a POW after his aircraft was shot down.  The program also included a special presentation by Rob Bender of the Travis Manion Foundation titled Character does matter.   We were honored to have artist Phil Taylor with the American Fallen Soldiers Project present a portrait to the family of USMC Lance Corporal, Nazario Serrano, an Irving HS Alumni who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation in Afghanistan.  We were also joined by Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne, who presented a special proclamation, and 32nd Congressional District representative Travis Reynolds present a plaque to the Serrano family on behalf of Congressman Pete Sessions.  The event concluded with a very special pin presentation to all the Vietnam Veterans in attendance as a part of the DOD 50th Commemoration program.  Each Vietnam Veteran in attendance was joined by a loved one who presented them a DOD 50th anniversary commemorative Vietnam Veteran Pin, with an amazing performance by recording artist Jennifer Nickerson to close the event in honor of all who serve with her song “America”
